Oscar nomination for former Birmingham Metropolitan College student

David Malinowski, a former Birmingham Metropolitan College student, has been nominated for a best makeup and hairstyling OSCAR at the 2018 Academy Awards along with Kazuhiro Tsuji and Lucy Sibbick, for his work on Gary Oldman’s transformation into Winston Churchill for the hit film The Darkest Hour.

David, who spent a year studying Film and Television Production in the mid 1990s at the Sutton Coldfield College campus of Birmingham Met, has spent many years working in the hair and makeup industry creating work for Madame Tussauds as well as on films including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Grand Budapest Hotel and X-Men: First Class plus television work including Downton Abbey, Doctor Who and Being Human.

Their work on The Darkest Hour is also shortlisted for a BAFTA at the 2018 EE British Academy Film Awards which take place on 18th February at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Look out David Malinowski‘s prosthetic work on Ready Player One, the Steven Spielberg directed film which was filmed partly in Birmingham’s Digbeth, Jewellery Quarter and under Spaghetti Junction. Ready Player One is scheduled for release in March 2018.

The 90th Academy Awards take place on 4th March at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
