Pirlo’s Dessert Lounge, Birmingham turns one

by Dave Massey twitter.com/brumhour

Hey guess what? Birmingham is FULL of fantastic independent businesses and eateries that I, Dave Massey, am willing to go to for FREE in EXCHANGE for saying LOVELY things about! But, and, if you’ve not heard this phrase before I might have to enlighten, there is NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH!

I’m a very direct person and I’m also someone that, 20 years ago, decided he was too wet behind the ears to become a journalist. I worked in bookshops as an event planner for the best part of 10 years and I’ve got reasonably high standards for what I expect from customer service in Birmingham. Particularly central Birmingham.

I saw a shoutout for bloggers on Brum Bloggers asking if we would like to go to Pirlo’s for Dessert! Pirlo’s is around the corner from Brum Radio where I loiter for part of the week, and even though this is only the end of its first year I’ve been working my way through the extensive menu.

Now you and I both heard the phrase FREE dessert here in EXCHANGE for a lovely blog post didn’t you??

So here we go:

Pirlo’s Dessert Lounge

From Sundaes, to cookie dough to chocolate fondue, there are items on the Pirlo’s Dessert Lounge extensive menu to cheer up even the most hangry of customers.

I arrived an hour early for the blogger event and sat at Hennessey’s opposite with my nose pressed against the glass looking for signs of my fellow bloggers. I waited until someone arrived to make sure I was second! I sat down and tried to look as relaxed as possible.

Arrival Drinks

THREE sundaes were presented to the first six of us. A Monster, a Tropical and a Neapolitan. There’s no point standing on ceremony at blogger events, if you want food you need to reach over and grab it!

I grabbed my spoon and had a spoonful of a Pirlo’s Monster Sundae. it has: Ferrero Rocher, nutella, strawberry gelato a chocolate brownie and vanilla ice cream. AND LOTS OF IT!

I had some of the Tropical which is really my favourite: Mango sorbet with sliced mango, pineapple and vanilla ice cream. Rather than being a monster, the tropical and the Neapolitan are designed for one medium to large sized male! (IE: ME!)

We were moved from our arrival table to a space further into this venue and it is a venue. It’s not a small ice cream parlour, its a large square space with plenty of booth seating and tables.

I looked over at the Tropical and Neapolitan sat on our arrival table half finished and decided a rescue mission was in order. I pretended to bring them both over for the table but there was little point as I knew and everyone else knew I’d only gone to get the Neapolitan for myself.

More desserts were laid at a booth infront of us and we took our blogger photos. These included a white chocolate and raspberry cake, a Choc O Holic Crepe with M&M’s, crushed Oreo’s, milk and white chocolate and a scoop of chocolate gelato!

Then there was Pirlo’s BIG waffle with banana, strawberries, Ferrero Rocher with Oreo Sprinkles and nuts covered in nutella with an ice cream scoop. There was also yummy looking cake that I didn’t note the name of!

At the counter the friendly staff were preparing us samples of: Waffles, cake and crepes. At this point I reached sugar overload! I was fit to burst and couldn’t eaten any more.. A doggie bag? OH if you must! I thanked everyone for a lovely night and cradled my doggie bag until I arrived home.

This is a relaxed venue with staff who are confident in their product and want to combine great service with excellent food. Well worth a visit!

Pirlo’s Dessert Lounge can be found at 6 Coventry Street, Birmingham, B5 5NY and is open from Noon every day until at least Midnight. It’s right behind Moor Street Carpark which is one of Bullring’s main carparks in Central Birmingham.

This isn’t a sponsored post and it was very lovely of Pirlo’s Dessert Lounge and Delicious PR offer an open invite via Brum Bloggers. This is my honestly held view.
