Cocktail Making Experience at New Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham
There is a secret space at the New Alexandra Theatre! Through a door next to the main auditorium lies a long room with a plush red carpet, complimenting grey decor, wall lights and retro mirrors. This wonderful little bar are was a secret to me until yesterday and I must admit I fell I little bit in love with this atmospheric space that has been hiding in plain sight.
We are here for a cocktail masterclass was hosted by the lovely Gavin and Claire and began with us making an Emerald Elixir, which is the signature cocktail of the Apollo Theatre London. A melon liquor with a dash of vodka and lemonade makes for a vibrant green drink, dry and refreshing this cocktail would be welcome at anytime of year but had a very summertime feel, although finished with a red and white candy stripped straw it looked decidedly festive.
We are sat in little groups, and we are each invited to create our own masterpiece – with a Strictly Come Dancing inspired name. Keep Dancing was on at the Alex during our visit. Dave and I made a Last Tango in Brum – gin, white rum and cranberry. The other groups made their own creations and we voted a winning creation called Strictly Rum Dancing -white rum, ginger ale, cranberry and grenadine. It tasted as good as it looked and the worthy winners let me snap a pic of them enjoying their creation.
If you don’t fancy a cocktail masterclass but still want to treat someone seeing a show you can book The Ambassador Experience, a full on VIP experience in the private bar area and available to book. This includes, a table for your own exclusive use all evening, from 90 minutes before curtain up, and during the interval, with complimentary drink and nibbles included in your package, private cloak room and toilets plus the exceptional service that is par for the course at the New Alex.
Upgrade to a champagne experience, this includes chocolates and half bottle of quality champagne. Whichever package you choose you get to enjoy a cosy bar that seats a maximum of 30 guests, you can enjoy a rather exclusive evening in a setting that very much put both myself and Brumhour Dave in mind of being on the Orient Express.
The whole event was a wonderful experience and it was lovely to find out about the ‘secret’ that is the Ambassador Experience. Many thanks to New Alexandra Theatre for inviting #Brumhour and myself and for making us feel as welcome as always.
