Stardate 07112016: Star Trek celebrates FIFTY years, in BIRMINGHAM!

Destination Star Trek comes to Birmingham

You might wonder why I’m telling you that Star Trek has turned 50! Well, I have have to stop and tell you now that:

Destination: Star Trek Europe is coming to the NEC, on the edge of Birmingham from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th of October!

I’m a geek and a pretty proud one at that. I was given a typewriter at the age of nine and a word processor at the age of fourteen and it was September 1990. Star Trek: The Next Generation appeared on BBC Two for the first time.

I wasn’t the sort of fourteen year old to go playing football out in the park, I found an imported Star Trek magazine in WHSmith on Union Street in Birmingham and discovered the address in California for the production company. I wrote to them and they sent me back the rules for writing a Star Trek: The Next Generation script. My script was 50 pages long and terrible of course! But it didn’t stop me writing.

Last week I went to Blackpool and they currently have Star Trek: The Exhibition. It’s walk round event that uses an augmented reality app to inform you about the history of Star Trek over the past 50 years.

Exploring Star Trek: The Exhibition in Blackpool

There were lots of original costumes, a mock bridge from the original Star Trek series and best of all was a transporter room where you can make a video of you beaming off the Enterprise. That, for any Trekkie was worth the money alone.

As I mentioned at the top of this page; Destination Star Trek Europe comes to Birmingham to the NEC from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th October 2016, it features many start from the Star Trek universe.

The REAL William Shatner will be appearing at Destination Star Trek along with Walter Koenig and George Takei from the Original series, plus Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Wil Wheaton from Star Trek: The Next Generation and many, many more.

There are a whole range of things to do including having your photo taken with Star Trek actors, talks to listen to from cast and crew, a gaming area and a special Star Trek: The Next Generation Bridge Set to pose for photos on!
