Little Gerties arrives in Redditch
Shoppers in the market for a collection of quirky homeware items and handmade arts and crafts need look no further than Little Gerties, a new addition to the independent scene at Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
Little Gerties, run by Birmingham-based brothers Mark and Jason Wilkes opened its doors last month on Walford Walk opposite Marks and Spencer.
The eclectic new store aims to support local businesses by showcasing a variety of gorgeous one-off products from the town’s home-grown independents.
Little Gerties is a spin-off of Bert and Gert’s established independent market that has brought a great mix of handmade and locally sourced arts, crafts, clothing and jewellery to the Centre on the second Saturday of the month for just over a year.
Kingfisher Shopping Centre has long been a draw for independent retailers, with much-loved Humphries Shoes having occupied space in the Centre for over 40 years.
The independent scene in the Kingfisher Centre continues to flourish with new addition Home Sweet Home also joining the mix over the past 12 months.
The newly revamped Home Sweet Home store – previously Kingfisher Carpet and Beds – recently upgraded its retail space to become a permanent fixture amongst the Centre’s range of independent stores.
Now situated in the former JJB unit, Home Sweet Home provides shoppers with a wide variety of beds, carpets, sofas and chairs from top brands including Silentnight, Hypnos and Natuzzi.
Other independent retailers in the Centre include hand-picked Italian clothing retailer Riley Boutique and accessories favourite Fat Giraffe.
Mark and Jason from Little Gerties comment: “Our events have a real community feel, all the traders are supportive of each other and we want to give them the opportunity to grow their hobbies and passions into a successful sustainable businesses.
“Our Little Gerties shops are an extension of our events and allow us to offer the type of products you will find at our events seven days a week.”
Ken Williams, General Manager at Kingfisher Shopping Centre comments: “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Mark and Jason’s new venture Little Gerties into the Centre. The store has had a fantastic reception so far and we look forward to seeing them flourish with us!
