Breakfast at Tiffany’s – New Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham
We all know the story of Holly Golightly, the extrovert, mysterious girl who beats the mean reds by dreaming into Tiffany’s jewel studded windows don’t we?
Well if you do or you don’t, reconnect or discover this tale set in 1940’s New York this week as the New Alexandra Theatre hosts the new stage play of Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
Stepping into the iconic Audrey Hepburn’s shoes for the Birmingham run, and bringing Holly Golightly to life is Pixie Lott. (This role is shared throughout the UK tour by Emily Atack and Georgia May Foote).
Whilst this is predominantly a play, Pixie demonstrates she is no pop princess, gracefully and soulfully performing three solos of music from the era. Her voice for me was the highlight of the show.
Starring alongside Pixie, as Fred, the narrator of this tale is Matt Barber of Downton Abbey fame and Bob the real-life perfectly behaved Cat.
To get you in the mood for the performance, the New Alexandra’s stylish Piano Bar has designed a special Breakfast at Tiffany’s Cocktail Menu (all £7-£8.50). Why not compliment your visit with a “case of the mean reds” Strawberry Daiquiri or a Moon River Pina Colada, or a Cats Cosmopolitan.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s runs at the new Alexandra Theatre until 23rd April 2016, whilst the Tour continues throughout the UK until 19th November 2016.
Sarah Elizabeth received tickets for free to see Breakfast at Tiffany’s and her review is honestly held.
