Record results for Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice

A Birmingham hospice is celebrating a record breaking festive fundraising season.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is on course to raise over £50,000 for its Care at Christmas campaign, after a bumper December of fundraising. It costs around £8million each year to run the Hospice and the money raised could help pay for 2,000 hours of vital Hospice at Home care.

Highlights of the campaign included over 400 people descending on King Heath Park for the hospice’s annual Jingle Bell Jog, doubling last year’s numbers, with Loose Women presenter Jamelia even making a surprise appearance.

And the hospice also created an eco-friendly end to the festive season, by collecting more than a thousand Christmas trees from homes across the city in return for very welcome donations.

Hamish Shilliday, Head of Fundraising at Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice, said:

“The support that we have received for the Care at Christmas campaign has been incredible. We are very grateful to all those who got behind our efforts and helped us to beat our targets.

“The Christmas period is an extremely busy time for the hospice and our staff work tirelessly to make it a special and comfortable time for all patients and their families. We are already creating some great campaigns for 2016 and expect this year’s campaigns to be bigger and better.”
