Raising the Roof – The Drum Needs You

“I am pleased to report that the Raising the Roof renewal project is advancing steadily. Although it might appear slow the project is on target to achieve its capital objectives: Birmingham City Council Cabinet has formally approved £900,000 and permission to use its Construction Framework; we have successfully prepared the Stage Two Arts Council England Strategic Fund bid, including a revamped Fundraising Action Plan; and we are devising a Big Lottery Reaching Communities project … so watch this space!

“The bid will be submitted in May for a decision mid-September this year; full closure is anticipated for March/April 2016. The building works will take up to eighteen months followed by a spectacular launch September/October the following year with an exciting array of entertainment, educational and training programme suitable for all age group and communities.

Raising The Roof

“Our fundraising objective is to raise £400,000 through an innovative promotional campaign, delivered in two parts: May and September. We are confident that we will achieve a large percentage of the financial target from Trusts and Foundations, and a smaller amount from donations.

“To successfully deliver the campaign we are asking the public for their help by becoming one of twelve Raising the Roof Champions and or as donors. We will be launching the campaign shortly and sharing our plans and hope you will join us to achieve the renewal of what was the site of Aston Hippodrome into a fit-for-purpose and invigorating performing and digital arts venue where our children can enjoy for generations to come.

“One of Birmingham’s favourite sons, poet Benjamin Zephaniah, and internationally acclaimed musician, Courtney Pine, are our patrons and are fully behind our new vision. Other partners include Birmingham Ofsted triple rating Perry Beeches Academy Trust and the innovative Punch Records.

“The building will be a beacon of light – a Transformational Hub that engages all communities, entrepreneurs and public, voluntary and private sectors – all working together to make a better Aston and Birmingham.”
