May 3rd: Are you Swingamajig?!

BrumHour asked Mazzy Snape to tell us about @Swingamajig returning to Birmingham 3rd May. Here’s what Mazzy wrote:

Swingamajig Host Their Biggest Event Yet This May

Swingamajig is the UK’s only urban festival dedicated to Electro Swing, Gypsy Folk and Gypsy Mayhem. We are delighted to be hosting the festival’s third year at Birmingham’s Creative Quarter, The Custard Factory on Bank Holiday Sunday 3rd May. For those of you who know Swingamajig, you will know we are quite different to any other festival around.

“This year sees the festival expand to cover the whole Custard Factory complex with four main stages, and a mixture of unusual live acts, circus tricks, swing dancing, 20s glamour, tasty food treats and more which will make for a variety of amazing experiences throughout.

“We wanted this year’s event to be in a setting which would fit with our unique requirements. The Custard Factory was perfect with its spaces, the eclectic range of shops, bars and more that fit with our unique requirements.

“For vintage fans the festival is a dream come true, as all the music, acts and stalls are vintage-themed or inspired! Even our drum n bass acts take their inspiration from 20s sounds!

“Our eclectic line-up spreads across the Custard Factory site and several different stages:

“We ran the classes last year and they were a massive success, whether you want to learn to dance for the first time or are looking to learn advanced techniques and styling this is a fantastic event to attend and it turns Swingamajig into a 2 day festival for Lindy Hoppers! This day of swing dance is one year to go before the launch of the International Dance Festival 2016 Birmingham so we are going to be launching this one with a bang!

“Tickets are priced just £20 for beginners and £35 for improvers-advanced and this includes 3 hours of teaching and entrance to the party in the evening with a live swing band, Classes will cover a mixture of lindy hop and solo jazz steps.

“We kick off at 13:00 with classes based at the DanceXchange at Birmingham Hippodrome on Thorp Street.
